Automatic spot measurement (part 2): interactive, statistical 3D spot area measurement

The previous article covered six core technologies behind automatic spot measurement on the skin analyzer. This article looks at its features: how, after detection, the software makes spots interactive, countable and explainable.

From detection to practical use

Algorithmic candidate regions are only the first step. In a consultation what is really needed is to point at a spot and explain where it is, how large it is and how much it has changed since last time. That requires stable interaction and feedback on top of the detection result.

Three functional features

1. Automatic detection: automatically detects red spots, brown spots, UV spots and other problem areas, supports detailed spot detection and classification across several categories, and draws spot contours directly on the detection result image.

2. Interactive control: moving or clicking the mouse picks up spot regions in real time, and double-clicking keeps a spot highlighted and totals the selected spot area; the area of the selected region is shown as 3D surface area.

3. Result feedback: the function panel shows spot count, coverage and area, with automatic refresh and data callback mechanisms that keep the interface in step with the detection result.

Three application features

1. 3D measurement: the function does not stop at detecting 2D spots; results are mapped onto the 3D mesh and true surface area is calculated, for professional uses such as aesthetic medicine and skin analysis.

2. Interaction: dragging, clicking and double-clicking preview and select spots, and with real-time area feedback this can be used for professional consultations and analysis reports.

3. Extensibility: the current detection framework already supports several skin categories and can extend to more spectral bands and spot types.

Automatic spot measurement uses multi-level AI algorithms to detect spots, together with 3D area calculation, adding pigment information that the eye and 2D photographs cannot quantify. With ZETTA's 56-megapixel imaging and ±0.2mm 3D measurement accuracy, results can be zoomed in for detail or viewed on the whole face for distribution.
